Cyclone 2015

Date: 20th June 2015
Distance: 64 miles
Time: 5 hours, 50 minutes

Back in January 2015, before we set off for Vietnam and Cambodia, I thought it might be nice to have something to look forward to later in the year so continuing with the cycling theme we signed up for the Cyclone Challenge event in June. They run 3 different routes:

  • The green route is for families and casual cyclists and is 34 miles long
  • The blue route is for semi-serious cyclists and is 64 miles long
  • The black route is for experienced, very fit cyclists and is 106 miles long

Knowing we would be covering up to 100km a day in Vietnam and Cambodia I thought the blue route was the one to go for!

We managed to get a couple of decent cycles in once we got back from Vietnam and Cambodia, but if truth be told I didn’t do nearly enough preparation for this event. Almost all of my cycling to date had been on relatively flat ground, and at a reasonably leisurely pace. The warning signs should have started to register at the start line when were surrounded by lots of light road bikes, whereas we were on our hybrid off-road bikes.
