Briefing Event in London

We’ve been down in London this weekend to attend a briefing event to find out more about the challenge ahead of us in February. As well as learning more about what to expect it was also a great opportunity to meet some of our fellow riders. We thought we might have travelled the furthest to be there but were unquestionably beaten by Amy who made the journey down from Inverness, by bus!

It looks like there will be 15 of us taking part on the ride. This should be a good number so that there’s plenty of moral support available, but not too many of us to create an inconvenience when we arrive together at each destination.

It was encouraging to hear that quite a few of the other riders are struggling to fit training in too, especially now the nights are drawing in which makes it difficult to get out during the week. It was also good to learn that we’ll be able to go at whatever pace suits us best, so a Tour de France-style peloton won’t be in operation! This also means we’ll have plenty of opportunities to pull over, snap some photos, and take in some of the many amazing sights along the way.

Kathryn from the CARE events team will also be joining us on the ride, and it was great to discover that she’s cycled a similar route through Vietnam and Cambodia previously, allowing her to share her experience with us yesterday, as well as some photos.

Something we know is going to be particularly special about this trip is that we’ll be visiting a Lendwithcare project, most likely in Cambodia. It might even be someone we’ve already made a loan to. This will be an incredible opportunity to really see how the loan can make a difference to someone’s life, and is the part of the trip I’m probably looking most forward to.

One thing we all agreed at the end of yesterday’s session was that sitting down together, looking at photos, and learning more about the practicalities of the trip has made it all seem so much more real. February isn’t far away.
